For as long as I can remember we have been creating clay texture pieces with kindergarten as we explore the idea of actual texture. My K team has always used these wall hanging as a Mother's Day gift from the students. Last year I had an idea that would give the kids two clay pieces for the work of one! We made our texture plaques and then, using cookie cutters we cut a shape out of the middle. The kids took home a cool clay pendant. The teachers added a cute picture and the moms loved their hand made frames! I love that everyone is happy and the students have mastered texture and been introduced to radial balance. (They stamped a bigger shape in the middle and then added details around it.) This is great for exploring texture. Lucy makes a picture for her blind grandfather. It really hits home the idea of actual texture versus visual texture!!
